Two years. Two counsel and one of the City's oldest law firms on the other side. No barrister. No solicitor. Just preparation, strategy, and the certainty that nobody cared about the outcome more than I did.
My name is Eugene Pienaar. I am a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales, admitted in 2002, non-practising. I hold an MBA with Distinction from Oxford Brookes and an LLB from the University of Natal, where I won the prize in Evidence.
In 2022 a £40 million claim was issued against me. On one side: two counsel and Farrer & Co, one of London's oldest and most prestigious law firms. On the other: me. No barrister. No instructing solicitor. Just my legal knowledge and the certainty that nobody would fight this harder than I would.
The litigation destroyed my 25-year business, Revomark, through stress, distraction and depression. The claim was always groundless. Pure bullying tactics designed to overwhelm rather than succeed. The claim has prescribed under South African law. My strike-out hearing is 15 May 2026.
"Sometimes you are your own best lawyer. This platform exists to make sure you are."
Be Your Best Lawyer is a do-it-yourself education platform. Guides, templates, practical tools. It is not EqualJustice, that is my done-with-you McKenzie Friend service. These are distinct businesses serving different needs. The philosophy connecting them is the same: access to justice should not depend on the size of your wallet.
That fact is your greatest asset. Channel it into preparation, precision and persistence. Your personal investment is a strength, not a weakness.
Court is expensive, unpredictable and exhausting. If there is any chance of a negotiated outcome, take it seriously. This platform teaches both: how to settle wisely, and how to fight effectively when you must.
A litigant who has prepared meticulously will outperform a represented party who has not. Judges notice. The documents you file signal whether you are someone to be taken seriously.
The law belongs to everyone. Courts are public institutions. The skills that make an advocate effective, clarity, structure, precision, composure, are human skills. They can be learned.
